IOT: A Threat to data Security and Employment
As we know Internet of things connects things or devices to a network
using sensors and can share the data via communication with each other. This
technology can be implemented in every area making things easy to access and
maintain. But challenges and risks are part of every new innovation, so as IOT.
Some challenges are:
·
Expansion
in Cybercrime Market: Cyber crime market is currently on small scale but
IOT will surely expend this market to large scale. Many devices are not
actually designed keeping security in mind. So eventually IOT will provide
opportunity for cyber criminals to make more money.
·
Loss of Data:
Loss of data is examined to be the biggest risk for IOT users. Current
security measures do not contribute
much to security of IOT. The majority people have significant concern that the
cybercriminals will hack their devices, access the information linked and
misuse that.
·
Less
Employment: As daily activities will get automated, there will be fewer
requirements of human resources. Helpers and workers without skills will end up
losing their jobs. So this may result in unemployment in society.
·
Complexity: It can be judged as a
simple system but IOT is a complex. Any small problem in IOT network can result
in serious repercussion. It’s an ecosystem simple to use but using sensors,
connecting devices and storing information needs much harder and complex
designing.
·
Rapid
Increase in requirement of Bandwidth: It has been revealed that there is an
outsize jump in network traffic during last 6-7 years. This is because more and
more devices are being connected to network due to social media and streaming
media. This increased demand for internet will propagate business survival
risk. To overcome this enterprise should consider adding bandwidth and magnify
monitoring and traffic management.
Every new technology comes with benefits and well as
risks. But most of these risks can be minimized using effective security measures,
increasing bandwidth and making people skilled and employable according to the
new technology.
